Prairie Crocus taken on a drive to Kleskun Hills by Wendy Kempert
Prairie Crocus taken on a drive to Kleskun Hills by Wendy Kempert

Hey folks,

It has been a busy month for the Club. In April, Dianne and Rick taught us a lot about macro photography. You can also see the presentation on the Facebook group page. But those who came to the meeting got to try special lenses and setups to make some amazing photos.

This month, we also launched SIGs (Special Interest Groups), which I think of as mini-photo Clubs within the club.

We have:

Creatives- We will cover all aspects of getting creative and meet twice monthly, with one meeting to discuss a creative idea and another to photograph it. Christine Young is running this group. Contact her to be added to the group chat.

Hiking and photos- This is the group for all the hiking photographers. Here, we will discuss and go on scenic hikes. Nichol Buchaski is running this group. Contact her to be added to the group chat.

Let’s talk photos- We will meet every two months unless there is a need for more. The FOCUS will not be on gear but the images you create. It will also be a place for people to share photos they are proud of, gain feedback, or talk about a project they are working on. I envision each meeting having time for everyone to share their work and what they hope to learn. Jesse Boily is running this group. Contact him to be added to the group chat.

Studio & lighting- This group is for you if you want to learn about studio lighting, portraiture, using strobes outside, and using lighting both studio & outdoors. The group plans to meet one or two times a month. Contact Natasha Haldane to join.

If you want to join any groups, contact the leaders above or email gppc.website@gmail.com, and we will connect you.

Additionally, if you want to start your SIG, just let us know, and we will add it to the list.

The club is also looking for mentees and mentors for the mentorship program. This is an excellent opportunity to get some hands-on help from someone to meet your photography goals or even have a like-minded photographer do some shoots together. For more information or to sign up, check out gpphotoclub.com/mentorship-2024.

We will also have a group show at the Centre for Creative Arts that will showcase our group's work over the past 20 years! For more details, look at the Facebook group or email gppc.website@gmail.com

Lots going on at the club! We have some more fun to be announced soon!

Thanks for reading,

Jesse Boily

May Meeting: Swap and Shop

We will set tables up for you to sell your old or unused gear or make trades for something else you’d like. Due to limited space, everyone must share a table. This means there will be limited room to set your wares up, half a table, to be exact. The general public will be invited to attend the sale but will not be allowed to sell. Please message Jesse or Dianne if you wish to be a seller. 11 tables means 22 spots. First come, first serve.

Centre for Creative Arts 7 p.m. May 26
